Testimonials

"The Ecosystems Field Investigation, developed by Homewaters Project, is a rich extension to the 4th grade science unit that gives students an opportunity to apply their emerging conceptual understanding of ecosystems to the schoolyard and the neighborhood."

--Kathryn Show, Elementary Science Curriculum Consultant/Science Coach, Seattle Public Schools

“The hands on field experiences really helped my students make sense of concepts like ‘fair test’.  They understood the connection between habitat and behavior.” -

-Bernie McDonough, Van Asselt Elementary

Ecosystems

This three-lesson field investigation provides a connection from the Seattle School District's fourth grade in-class Ecosystems Science Unit to the real world. It extends the learning from the indoor setting to actual ecosystems right outside the classroom. It promotes student understanding that scientific investigations are also done outdoors and that students can be field ecologists. The lessons connect directly to academic standards and promote success on state science assessments.
