Community Mapping

Community Mapping Programs connect middle and secondary students to their neighborhoods using hands-on mapping, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, and inquiry based activities tied to existing curricula and Washington State learning requirements. By focusing on key social and environmental questions, teachers are trained to help students develop resources for their communities. In 2006-07, Homewaters is focusing on two continuing projects: Neighborhood Green Mapping, and the Water and Community GIS Program. The Mapping My Place summer program for Seattle's Community Centers is ongoing as well.
