Volunteer!

There are many opportunities to volunteer at Homewaters Project. If you'd like to get involved with one of our programs, fundraising efforts, behind-the-scenes support or outreach efforts, please check out the volunteer opportunities described below or contact our office.

Program Volunteers

Land and Water (March-June, weekdays):  Volunteers teach 5th grade students in the Thornton Creek Watershed about stream ecology in this ½ day field extension of Seattle School’s Land and Water Science Unit. Contact Kate Bedient.

Garden Education and Maintenance (GEM) Team (timing to be announced, weekdays):  Volunteers teach simple lessons to 4th to 6th grade students, teachers, or families about native plants and water-wise gardening and help with school garden maintenance of previously established projects. Contact Linda Versage.

Mapping programs: Volunteers with Geographic Information System expertise or experience occasionally assist Seattle or Shoreline middle and high school teachers with GIS lessons on social and environmental health in Neighborhood Green Mapping and Water and Community. Contact Kate Bedient.

Thornton Creek Long Walks (single event; September, February, June): Volunteers assist in event coordination for this guided, public, urban hike, or help with group management and logistics the day of the hike. Contact Homewaters Project.

Organizational Volunteers

Outreach Volunteer (single event or ongoing):  Outreach volunteers work with Homewaters Project’s Outreach Coordinator to expand our organizational presence in the community and the media. Staff a booth at a community festival, direct guests during the Living With Beavers program, staff a food or kids' activity table during the Brian Waite Band concert. Or assist with database management, press releases, publication development, and other tasks as needed. Contact Homewaters Project.

Administrative Volunteer (ongoing):  General administrative volunteers assist with events, mailings, office management, and other tasks as needed. A way to get involved with a local nonprofit without a huge time commitment. Contact Homewaters Project.
